Transferring Your Domain Name

This article will teach you how to transfer your domain name from provider to provider. Lets start with the basics, shall we?

Lets begin by defining a domain name transfer. A domain name is your sites URL, eg google.com. In order to have acquired that domain name, you had to have first purchased it through a domain name registrar. Some of the more popular registrars out there include GoDaddy, HostGator, NameCheap, just to name a few. If you would like to manage your domain name somewhere other than the company you purchased it through, you'll have to perform a domain name transfer.

Obtaining the EPP / Authorization code. This is step number one. This code is your ticket to transferring for one provider to another. Obtaining it will be different for every provider, so please refer to your current providers support documentation, or contact their support specialists. Here are some links to the most popular registrars support pages.

Once you've obtained your transfer code, it's time to purchase the transfer.

  1. Select the transfer option from the store menu.
  2. Enter the URL of the domain you're transferring.
  3. Enter the EPP code obtained from current provider.

And you're done! After the payment had been received, your transfer will begin immediately. Typical wait time for the transfer to complete is 1 to 2 weeks.
